Here Comes Cisco


Cisco is an incoming 3rd grade student.. Aside from using a multisensory method for his spelling and decoding, his program also includes listening comprehension. During reading, he was asked guide questions and tasked to use story clues. Moreover, he was required to answer worksheets about remembering the important details and events in the story.



Cisco answered a table containing story clues from The Twelve Labors of Hercules by Marc Cerasini. Given are tasks that were requested by the king. Cisco is anticipated to give his own solution to the problem. After which, he will continue to listen of the story and find out how Hercules solved the problem.

In the sample below, Cisco was asked to provide a summary for the book, Tree of Birds by Susan Meddaugh.




The story takes place in the backyard. Hary is a character in the story who takes care of his bird sally. A problem occurred when sally hasent Ben eating much. Then Birds started folowing him. However, the bird woldent go even if it raind or scared by Harry. The problem is solved when he opend the window. The story ends with the dirds went in thair house.

What Cisco meant:
The story takes place in the backyard. Harry is a character in the story who takes care of his bird, Sally. A problem occurred when sally hasn’t been eating much. Then birds started following him. However, the bird wouldn’t go even if it rained or scared by Harry. The problem is solved when he opened the window. The story ends with the birds went in their house.





Another worksheet is taken from the book; Miss Nelson is Missing by James Marshall. Cisco was required to write how the students behaved in the book.



How did the students of Miss Nelson behave?
Before Miss Swamp: They threw spit ball on the selling.
During Miss Swamp: They wer polite. They wer sad. They wer Behave.
After Miss Swamp: They were Behave, nice and happy.

What Cisco meant:
Before Miss Swamp: They threw spitballs on the ceiling.
During Miss Swamp: They were polite. They were sad. They were behaved.
After Miss Swamp: They were behaved, nice and happy.




Cisco is turning 9 on August. He has a fascination with animals, especially those that are considered "weird".  He dutifully watches these on educational channels on television.
