Predators! (Part 1)

By Jakey

There are animals that eat other animals which are called predators. I will tell you some predators, what their preys are and how they catch their preys

First, these predators use their eyes to hunt. For example, there’s the eagle (right photo). It uses its eyes to catch its prey. When it is able to see its prey, it uses its claws to grab it. Then, there’s the cheetah. They’re really fast. They focus on their target and where they’re going. Finally, the bear uses its eyes to capture fishes that could jump in the stream. If they get their calculation right they would be able to catch the fish without any problem.

Second, some predators use their sense of smell like the coyote. It is like the cheetah but it can only be found in the snow. It uses its nose to find its prey. Then there’s the shark (left photo). It uses its sense of smell to find tiny particles of blood then it will find the animal that dropped the blood

Third, predators can sense the body heat of their prey. To begin with, there’s the vampire bat (right photo) that sense the body heat of injured or sleeping animals. They suck their blood then use their saliva to keep the blood flowing, Eeew! Then, the snake could sense body heat from other animals and uses surprise to capture its prey.

Making a Sandwich

By Erika

My favorite sandwich is hamburger. Other sandwiches that I know are ham, cheese and egg salad sandwich. People like to eat sandwiches because it is easy to make and it is easy to eat. People eat sandwiches for lunch, breakfast or merienda. The sandwich was invented by the Earl of Sandwich. He made the first sandwich when he was playing cards because he did not want to quit the game. He took two slices of bread and put cold meat between the bread. That was the first sandwich!

Here is how to make an egg salad sandwich. You will need two boiled eggs. You need bread, mayonnaise, salt, pepper, fork, bowl and plate. First, you will mash the eggs in the bowl. Second, you will put mayonnaise, salt, pepper and you will mix the egg. Third, you will put the egg mixture on the bread. Last, you will toast the egg sandwich. Enjoy your sandwich!

Erika plans to ride her bike and learn how to cook this summer.

Maroon 5 in Manila

By Raffy

A concert of Maroon 5 was held in the Araneta Coliseum last March 5, 2008 at 9:00 pm.

The band, Maroon5, has sold over a million albums around the world. They have five male members: Adam Levine (vocals, guitar), James Valentine (guitar, vocals), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards, vocals), Mickey Madden (bass guitar) and Matt Flynn (drums, percussion). Their genre is rock and roll.

They sang around more than six songs and my favorite song is “She will be loved” because I used it for Valentines Day. Araneta was full of people and they were singing and clapping for the band. The best member was the lead guitarist because he kept on saying Filipino words like “Mahal kita” and “Isa, dalawa, tatlo, apat!"

For me, I give the concert the rating of 10 out of 10 that means that it is the best forever.

The Baudelaires

By: Jolo

The names of the three Baudelaire orphans are Violet, Klaus & Sunny. Violet is 14 years old & she is an inventor. She is very smart. She often examines machines. Violet creates something that saves the day. Klaus is 12 years old and he is a human dictionary. He often reads any books. He thinks of something that could save the day. Sunny is a baby. She has sharp and strong teeth. She talks baby talk but Violet and Klaus could understand her. She saves the day using her teeth.

The Baudelaire orphans are unfortunate because misfortune always happens to them every where they go. The death of their parents was the most unfortunate event for them. Bad luck always happen to them when they encounter Count Olaf and his nefarious assistants. The unacceptable hypnosis done to Klaus by Dr. Orwell was the plan of Count Olaf. His plan was to kill the Baudelaire orphans to get their fortune. Mr. Poe, the person who was assigned to take care of their money will give the money to Violet when she’s 18 years old. He was also the one assigned to hire a caretaker. But he always assigns the bad caretakers and doesn’t care about the children. Some of the caretakers died because of Count Olaf.

There are two things that I learned from the Baudelaire orphans. The Baudelaire orphans always stand up for themselves. For example, they kept telling their caretakers that Count Olaf is near even if the caretakers didn’t believe them. Another thing that I learned from them is to care for others. An example was when Charles (from the fourth book, "The Miserable Mill") was saved by the Baudelaires from getting killed by a chainsaw.

Jolo likes to play PC games especially Dota and NBA live or FiFa.

Unusual Iceland

by Jakey

Iceland is unusual because of its climate. First, it has glaciers so it’s rainy and cold that makes planting corn hard. Second, Iceland has lots of hot springs. Its steams help the people heat their apartments, homes, city buildings and swimming pools. Third, it also has volcanoes that erupt and produces lava that heats up the climate. Fourth, it has grassy plains where it is good to raise cows. Last, Iceland has a mix of cold water and hot water that makes it the best place for fishing so Icelanders make fishing a living.

For me, I don't think I can live in Iceland because the climate is too different and I hate fish.

Question: Would you want to live in Iceland?
